Today we will start and finish at the top of the Murchison Spur overlooking the Valley of a Thousand Hills. The ride is an out-and-back format with a twist – find a buddy and you are free to head in any of the four directions from the carpark no-one is to ride alone. You will head out for half the agreed time, then turn back and return to the cars. Once we have all arrived back safely we will load our bikes and drive back to Broadford for the all-important coffee.
The four options are:
North: Head up Horans Track towards Mt Hickey and admire the fantastic views this road offers.
South: Ride along Murchison Spur Rd into the Mt Disappointment State Forest. It is 9km to the Strath Falls on Falls Rd – do you think you can make there and back in time?
East: Down, down you speed off “the Murch” Feels great flying down doesn’t it? But don’t ride too far from the bottom though as it is a hell of a climb back up.
West: Head towards Reedy Creek and return for an all-bitumen relatively cruisy option.
Depending on the direction selected the ride is either bitumen, gravel or very steep so bring along whatever steed you think is appropriate.
