Hidden Valley vehicle entrance to rail reserve : Lucca Way
End of Lucca Way, Hidden Valley, Wallan, Victoria

Many readers will be aware that MBUG and the Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail group (FBKRT) have been advocating for many years for a rail trail to link the Wallan township to the O’Keefe Trail at Heathcote.  These two groups see the Hidden Valley Rail Reserve as a key piece of infrastructure which can be used to take trail users out of Wallan.  Accordingly, both MBUG and FBKRT have taken part in several working bees at the site to improve the trail surface and to assist with woody weed removal.  Some of these working bees were organised by our colleagues at the Wallan Environment Group (WEG) who are keen to preserve the diverse flora and fauna which exists in this small parcel of remnant bush

The Wallan Environment Group (WEG) will be holding a tree planting day at the Hidden Valley Rail Reserve on Sunday 30 June 2024 from 10:00am to 12 noon (weather permitting) meeting at the top of Lucca Way (follow the red line on this map).
The planting will occur close to the Lucca Way entrance. You will be mainly planting trees to shade out the dead gorse and prickly shrubs to protect sensitive areas.
Tools and gloves will be provided. Wear suitable shoes and dress for the expected task and weather.

Please register for this event so you can be contacted in case the event is cancelled due to bad weather.

At this stage the second planting day is scheduled for July 28.  More information will be sent closer to that date.
