Today is an out-and-back ride up to Avenel following what was the family ride option for the LifeCycle event and you would be hard-pressed to find a more pleasant way to wind-down at the end of the financial year.
The rules for an out-and-back ride are simple: we all start together and each individual rides the route at their own pace. At an agreed time everyone turns around and returns along the same route to Aramintas for coffee – first back bags a table for the rest. In theory we should all arrive back together, but the practice is usually different. There are two main advantages of out-and-back rides which make them ideal for new riders or those who have not ridden a lot recently:
1. You ride as much or as little as you are able
2. Unless you are the rider at the very front, if you have a problem you just wait beside the road and those in front of you will eventually come back past and help.
There are a few minor hills along this route (see the route profile in the link below) but essentially the ride is flat.
All bitumen, so bring the roadie if you wish. The proposed route may be viewed at http://ridewithgps.com/routes/1399878
Meet at the Seymour Post Office in Station St for an 0930 start.
