Our last Heathcote had to be cancelled due to COVID restrictions, so we hope we will have better luck with this one.
Our colleagues at the Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail (FBKRT) have invited us to join them on a ride we last did together back in 2010. This time the route is a little shorter and a lot less hilly because we won’t be riding up to Emu Flat.
The ride itself is straightforward – we ride from Heathcote down to Tooborac along the very pretty Dairy Flat Rd and after a light lunch at the Tooborac Hotel we will return to Heathcote along Majors Line Rd and Youngs Lane, which again is very picturesque with much of this half of the route through forested areas. With luck many of the winter-flowering wattles will be putting on a show for us by then.
A plot of the proposed 46km route may be viewed at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35249474.
Most of this ride is on gravel surfaces, so a MTB or Hybrid is recommended
Please register for this event for two reasons:
1. By Wednesday July 7 we need to know numbers so we can confirm our reservation at the Tooborac Hotel for lunch.
2. Due to the latest COVID outbreak or predicted adverse weather we may need to cancel the event at short notice – it is July after all.
Don’t forget to include your mobile number so we can text you if necessary.
We will meet for an 0930 start at Gaffneys Bakery which is located on the corner of Jennings St and the Northern Highway in Heathcote. If you need a coffee kickstart you can get one here before we leave.
