Today we return to one of our regular rides from Whittlesea up the old Humevale Coach Road, but instead of going to the Flying Tarts Bakery at Pheasant Creek we are going to try out the recently opened Flour Flower Bakery at Kinglake West. Coach roads are the next best thing gradient-wise to a rail trail and the Humevale Road is no exception – it offers a very doable 4% average over it’s length (300m in 7km) and as a bonus it is a quiet and lovely ride, especially earlier in the day when the sun is filtering through the tall trees and there are many birds about. When you arrive at the Kinglake turnoff at Kinglake West, you need to continue a short distance straight ahead on the Flowerdale Rd and look out for the new Shell service station on the right. The bakery is co-located on the same site. Morning tea will be at the Flour Flower bakery before returning the same way you came – along Humevale Rd. Enjoy the downhill!
Meet inside the gate to the Whittlesea football ground. The gate is on the left heading out of Whittlesea on the Yea Rd. just after crossing the Plenty River bridge. The vehicle entrance to the football ground is through the low brick fence just before the Show ground main entrance.
If there is an event on and you are expected to pay to enter, just park across the road and walk/ride over.
Plenty of parking, and toilets are open. Be there for an 0900 start.
