Today’s ride will begin at Craigieburn where you will catch the 0855 from Craigieburn to Jacana, here you will alight the train. Paul will lead us as we start riding down the trail along the side of the M80. You will leave this trail in Keilor Park heading into the Maribyrnong Valley Parklands. The trail changes from bitumen to gravel within the Parklands and continues as a gravel path until you reach Aberfeldie.
The trail continues along the Maribyrnong River passing through Aberfeldie, Maribyrnong and Flemington, before you make your way to Newmarket Station, where you will catch the “silver limo” back to Craigieburn (after refreshments of course!).
While the route as described is 36km long, don’t let this discourage you from coming – the riding is mostly downhill, you will also have an optional stop for a coffee and a spell at about the half-way point or else you can continue and finish at Newmarket for lunch.
Don’t forget to bring your Myki for the trip home and your bike lock to ensure your bike is still there after lunch.
There are a mix of bitumen and gravel surfaces gravel or hybrid are recommended.
