We haven’t ridden this particular route to Fairfield since 2018 – yes pre-COVID! Eadaoin thought it was about time to give this lovely ride a run so today she will lead you from Epping station down to Fairfield along the upgraded Darebin Creek Trail.
The plan is to have a casual lunch in Station St. Fairfield before riding over to Merri or Rushall station to catch the “silver limo” back to Epping – so don’t forget to bring your Myki and your bike lock.
The route is suitable for all types of bikes, but note that while the northern end of the trail is now concreted, there may be a couple of short stretches of good-quality gravel remaining in the Preston/Thornbury area. With care, these sections may be ridden on a road bike if you choose to bring it along.
The proposed route and elevations can be viewed at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/27369759.
Meet at Epping station for an 0930 start. The ride is 27km and unless someone has opened a pop-up coffee shop along the trail, there is nowhere to buy tucker (or coffee) until Fairfield, but bring your keep-cup anyway, it is always handy to have it with you – for emergencies only of course .
