Craigieburn Railway Station
Craigieburn Railway Station, Craigieburn

An early start today, but what a treat this ride will be. On this “Out of Shire” ride we start the day at Craigieburn with an enjoyable train trip to Kensington where the fun really begins. After a few Kensington back streets we will join the Maribyrnong Trail and ride down to Yarraville where we will pick up the Federation Trail on it’s recent new extension. We will cross the new Brooklyn Bridge and then have a leisurely pedal along the trail which follows the old outfall sewer which was built in the 1890’s. You will be pleased to know that the open outfall sewer is no longer in use!! You will be able to see the amazing brick work in the sewer and we will pass old pump stations and finally ride beside the old Werribee sewerage bridge colloquially known to Werribee residents as the “Poo Bridge”. From here we will follow the Werribee River south and visit Werribee Park where we can admire the old bluestone outbuildings of the original Chirnside Estate and then visit the Mansion itself and take a walk through the fabulous gardens. Here we will need to walk our bikes because riding in the gardens is not allowed!! We can then have a coffee, or an early lunch at Shadowfax winery before retracing our tracks back along the river and then following the river cycle path into Werribee Township. From here we can cycle back to Yarraville or hop on a train from Werribee station.
Bring your bike lock and Myki.  This is a ride not to be missed!

This ride is suitable for all types of bicycle
